KANJI TEST TEMPLATE — SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS

FOR THE PERSON SENDING THIS PACKAGE
Send kanji_test_template.zip to the teacher. It contains the approved
landscape layout, generator, examples, and instructions. No access to the
original Codex chat is needed.

FOR THE TEACHER USING HER OWN CODEX
1. Unzip the package.
2. Attach REQUEST_TEMPLATE.txt and the other files from this folder to a
new Codex chat, or give Codex access to the extracted folder.
If Codex can read ZIP files directly, attaching the ZIP is also fine.
3. Copy the text from REQUEST_TEMPLATE.txt into your message.
4. Replace its example questions with your new sentences. Mark each target
as reading or writing and supply its hiragana reading as shown below.
5. Send the message. Codex should generate the student Word test, teacher
answer key, and previews using the supplied generator and layout.
6. Review the answer key and preview before printing. Print on US Letter,
LANDSCAPE, 11 inches wide × 8.5 inches tall, at 100% scale.

HOW TO MARK QUESTIONS
Reading: *監視|かんし*
Writing: [準備|じゅんび]
Mixed: *監視|かんし*の[準備|じゅんび]を進める。

Use one complete sentence per line. You can mark several targets in one
sentence. Keep kana endings outside the markers: [食|た]べる。
Numbers are optional. Giving the reading for every target is the clearest
way to specify exactly what you want.

IF YOU PREFER ORDINARY NOTES
You can give Codex the sentence and a list instead:
Sentence: 監視の準備を進める。
監視 / かんし / READ
準備 / じゅんび / WRITE
Codex will convert these notes to the required questions.txt format.

FOR LATER TESTS
Keep this package. Start another request with the same template and your
new questions. No Python editing or manual Word layout adjustments are
needed. In an existing chat, say “Use the same landscape kanji template”
and supply the new questions. In a new chat, attach the package again.

OPTIONAL LOCAL METHOD
Edit questions.txt and double-click generate.command on a Mac.
The first run needs Python and internet to install Python dependencies.
PDF/PNG previews also require LibreOffice and Poppler; Codex can check
whether these are available. See README.md for setup details.
